Determining Your Target Market
When you wish to promote your product or services, the first factor you wish to try and do is to see your specific market. Once target market is determined, you'll then use the four P in marketing to decide the way to approach your target market. So, why is target market necessary? The main reason is that firm remains for a raison d'être. It needs to discriminate itself from competition in order to subsist. As an example if you've got set to sell bottled water to the final mass in the urban space, then good luck with that. In the US, Pepsi and Coke has widespread delivery of bottled water drinking through its Aquafina and Dasani brand. If you continue to insists on selling bottled water, then you would like to narrow your target market.
For instance, instead of selling to the general mass, your target market for the bottled water will be physically energetic people who avoids thirst quenchers like Gatorade when they do exercises. Once you establish this target market, you'd then use the 4 P to differentiate yourself from regular bottled water. For instance, in terms of place (distribution), you can avoid places like quick food restaurants or lounges. Statistically, folks who are exercising, infrequently visit these places. You'd then deliberate your circulation on places like the varsity's sporting facility.
While selecting your target market looks trivial, it can cost you a large number of promoting dollars if attained incorrectly. Let's presuppose that you are doing not settle on what your target market is and you are currently using the four P in selling to promote your product. You'd then allocate your bottled water to places like convenience stores, gas stations and also the shopping mall. Will you capture audiences who are physically additional active than the population? Yes, you will. But, the share of that audience is small compared to if you focus your distribution on that target market.
